Our Mission: A Lifeline for Vulnerable Orphans
This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to help us provide critical support to Nigerian Christian families who are opening their hearts and homes to children orphaned by terrorist violence. Through the Heart for the Persecuted Church efforts, we are making a difference in the lives of hundreds of children who have lost everything.
Newest Orphans: A Tragic Crisis
In December 2023, just days before Christmas, violent Sunni Muslim tribesmen launched brutal attacks on Christian villages in Plateau State, just south of Jos. The terror left hundreds of innocent Christian men, women, and children dead. In the aftermath, approximately 1,000 children ā ranging from infants to teenagers ā were left orphaned, many of them with no one to care for them.
Most of the younger orphans were moved to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Barkin Ladi and Mangu. In these camps, tribal leaders sought out relatives to care for these children. But with limited resources and growing desperation, the burden became too great for many families.
Your Impact: Providing Hope and Stability
To respond to this dire situation, the Heart for the Persecuted Church established a program to provide a monthly stipend to families willing to take in orphans who are relatives. Many children have been placed in safe, caring homes....but hundreds of children are still waiting to be rescued.
Zainab and Veidi's Story
Miss Zainab is a determined disabled athlete and Public Administration graduate from Plateau State Polytechnic who defied all odds when she took in an orphaned baby.
Below is her story told in her own words that shows the tragic truth of what these children are facing in Nigeria, and how baby Veidi came to live with her.
I went for the 2023 general election at my local government in Barkin Ladi when I heard some ladies at the village lamenting about a forsaken baby whose mother died during the Fulani herdsmen attack at the local government area in Riyom.
The mother was on delivery when the attack broke out and she was not spared. When the soldiers were gathering the corpses, they discovered a woman who was heavily pregnant was still breathing.
They found the baby was still alive and the baby was operated out, but the mother was dead by then.
The soldiers decided to take the baby to a relative or anyone who cared enough to take the baby but everyone rejected the baby.
I heard of this unfortunate incident, and I was shattered at the thought that an innocent baby is being rejected in such a way.
I then casually told them that a baby is never to be rejected and so Iām willing to care for the baby even in my condition.
I heard a knock on my door the following day to find some security personnel asking if I had shown interest in a baby we spoke about the previous day. I said yes and they immediately handed the baby over to me.
This Giving Tuesday, help us continue to provide hope and support for Nigeria's orphans. Your contribution can make an immediate impact, providing financial assistance to families who are opening their homes to children in need.
